Since opening our doors more than 17 years ago, we at Cardinal Bank have been committed to the principle that as a successful community bank, we have the privilege and responsibility to make the communities we serve better. As the Bank has grown from our start in the heart of Fairfax County to serve all of Northern Virginia as well as into the District of Columbia and Maryland, we’ve been passionate about making our communities great places to do business and great places to live.

In 2002, we launched the Cardinal Bank Charity Classic golf tournament to benefit Inova Kellar Center, which serves at-risk children and youth. The Classic has evolved into our signature philanthropic event, expanding to benefit additional community organizations and, as of this year, raising more than $5 million.

We widened our philanthropic outreach to other nonprofits in 2008 through the Cardinal Community Fund, a corporate advised fund at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. It’s been a great partnership for us; outsourcing the administrative responsibilities to this wonderful organization is cost-effective and has helped us reach our philanthropic goals. To date, the Cardinal Community Fund has awarded more than 250 grants totaling over $650,000 to area nonprofits through the Foundation.

Cardinal team members generously devote their time, talent and energy to the communities where we work and call home. Last year, our employees logged more than 11,500 volunteer hours, working closely with many of our grant recipients to make a positive difference in our communities.

Cardinal’s commitment to community philanthropy, through our partner the Foundation and other means, is summed up by our President Kevin Reynolds:

“Cardinal has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to make a difference in so many communities and believe that good corporate citizenship benefits everyone!”
