Annual Sweet Home Virginia Gala raises funds to support critical needs in Northern Virginia

Jim Wordsworth of J.R.’s Goodtimes Inc. will be recognized by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia for his history of commitment to supporting the region through volunteer and community service and charitable giving with the 2015 Community Leadership Award.  The longest standing community based recognition award in Northern Virginia, it will be presented at the Community Foundation’s annual Sweet Home Virginia Gala on October 9, 2015 at the Sheraton Tysons Hotel.

The award is presented annually for outstanding commitment and dedication to improving the quality of life for all Northern Virginians.  

Jim Wordsworth has been recognized nationally and locally for not only the quality of his business operations, but for his community service.  A founding member of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s Board of Directors, his commitment to serving the needs of the local community has been an integral part of his personal and professional life from the beginning.  Not only has Jim served the business community through participation on the boards of directors of the  U.S. Chamber, National Restaurant Association and Virginia Tourism Corporation, he has also supported local nonprofit organizations such as the DC Metropolitan United Cerebral Palsy, 4-H, YMCA, Little League, and the Boy Scouts.

“Jim Wordsworth has been a champion for those in need in the Northern Virginia region since he opened his first business here many years ago,” said Eileen Ellsworth, President of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia.  “His generous support of the local community through his leadership on business and nonprofit boards of directors his commitment of time and resources to championing the causes in which he believes is truly inspiring, and I am delighted to bring his work and accomplishments into the spotlight by honoring Jim with this year’s Community Leadership Award.”

The evening will feature a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by dinner, live auction and award presentation.  Dress is black tie attire.
