2017 Chairman's Awards Honor Recipients, Innovation Breakfast Focuses on Community Wealth Building

The event was focused on, “Community Wealth Building – A New, Inclusive Systems Approach to Economic Development,” and featured speakers Ted Howard, President and Co-Founder, The Democracy Collaborative, and Yanique Redwood, President and CEO, Consumer Health Foundation. The goal of Community Wealth Building is to create inclusive, sustainable, and equitable models of economic success.
During this event, The Community Foundation presented 2017 Chairman’s Awards, which are awarded to outstanding Community Foundation partners:
  • SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County
  • The Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools
  • The City of Manassas Public Schools Education Foundation, and
  • The Loudoun Education Foundation
In partnership with these four education foundations, the Community Foundation is providing children and youth new critical skills and training with co-funded new high school cybersecurity courses, new CyberPatriot clubs in middle schools, and new coding immersion in elementary schools.

A Chairman’s Award was also presented to the Giving Circle of HOPE. Members of this giving circle have been involved with the Community Foundation for more than 10 years and they are like minded philanthropists who care deeply about Northern Virginia and give exclusively to local causes. This past year the Giving Circle of HOPE celebrated their $1 million dollar grant making milestone.

On Thursday, September 14, 2017, the Community Foundation will hold the next Innovation Breakfast, and the focus is on the topic of the “Skills-Based” education coming of age, and the demand for highly-skilled employees.
