The purpose of this funding request is to support BEACON’s adult education instructional program that provides classes on ESOL/GED, Workforce Development, Civics and Citizenship to low-income adults in Prince William County. BEACON provides services to over 250 people each year.

Support for the Multicultural Certified Nurse Aide Training Program, a 130 hour certificate class that provides English language and nursing training for low income immigrant students to prepare them for employment in home health care, assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Support for programs that assist low-income, non-English speaking
families attain English Language proficiency through adult instruction, Head Start classes and collaboration with ESL public school classes.

Partial funding for staff salaries to support volunteer tutors and students in order to improve the English language proficiency of non-English speaking adults, to support adults seeking to improve basic literacy skills, and to maintain, expand, and enhance literacy programs.

Arlington Free Clinic, $10,000
Support for AFC’s in-house, licensed Pharmacy which is an essential part of the comprehensive medical care patients require. The program provides medications for 1,700 low-income, uninsured individuals. AFC is the community’s only free safety net clinic that provides medications.
Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic, $7,500
Serving Fairfax County
Support for health care services for low income un-insured patients including children and chronically ill adults. Funding supports the medical staff which provides direct life changing medical care in teams with volunteers.
Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice/ LAWS, $10,000
Support for the Director’s position which is essential to provide child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members with the vital supportive services needed to prevent their existing trauma from negatively impacting the rest of their lives.

BARN is seeking $10,000 from the Community Investment Fund to implement a fast-track plan for "rapid-re-housing" that will move and sustain five families into permanent housing within 3-6 months of their enrollment into BARN. Project will provide assistance to homeless women in matters of finance.

Support for the purchase of food for distribution through the UCM Basic Needs program, which last year distributed 584,349 pounds of food to 7,840 unduplicated hungry men, women, and children.
MILITARY PERSONNEL AND THEIR FAMILIES
Armed Forces Foundation, $10,000
Support for Family Assistance Program. With over 100 requests monthly for financial support, requests are outweighing their capacity to give. Goal is to provide relief to even more families while their loved one is deployed or recovering from injury.
Fisher House Foundation, $10,000
Support for operating a new Fisher House at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Home will serve thousands of active duty, veterans, and their families throughout the state and the region. It will also be heavily used by wounded warriors injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Inova Health System, $10,000
Support for the Military to Medicine program, which provides scholarships to military veterans and their families for healthcare career training with a goal this year of increasing the number of scholarships awarded to individuals in Northern Virginia to 30.
Linden Resources, Inc., $10,000
Support for Veterans Ready 2 Work (VR2W) program, a unique and holistic empowerment program for veterans with service connected disabilities, primarily traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). VR2W integrates training, employment and support services and facilitates economic independence.
Operation First Response, Inc., $10,000
Support for Operation First Response, which provides financial aid to Wounded Warriors and Disabled Veterans. Assistance consists of rents, mortgages, utilities, food, vehicle payments. These needs are brought to OFR by case workers, major medical facilities and chain of command.
Our Military Kids, Inc., $10,000
Support for “One Child at a Time-Virginia”, which provides grants for extracurricular activities and tutoring to the children of deployed Virginia National Guard and Military Reserve personnel, and children of Wounded Warriors in all branches.
USO, $10,000
Support for Career Opportunity Days for Wounded Warriors at Fort Belvoir, VA, to provide networking and job opportunities for wounded warriors. Wounded warriors often leave the military w/ career assistance needs not fully addressed. Intensive career planning/mentorship is needed so they can achieve self-sufficient/productive civilian lives as veterans w/ disabilities.
Yellow Ribbon Fund, $7,500
Support for families visiting wounded family members at Ft. Belvoir, including free hotel rooms, rental cars and cab rides.
