BartlettEarly in my career I was moved, and still am, by The Boeing Company’s incredible potential to make a real difference for communities around the globe. Through our network of community partners and the work of our 165,000 employees we’re able to have a positive impact in the areas where we live and work. The opportunity to help drive that effort is what brought me to where I am today.

As a member of Boeing’s Global Corporate Citizenship team, I’m privileged to work with organizations throughout the region that support communities in the areas of education, the environment, health and human services, arts and culture, military and veterans, and more. The Community Foundation of Northern Virginia (CFNOVA) is one of those organizations, with a mission to help grow philanthropy and strengthen the community by working to address the region’s critical needs, serve donors and problem-solve for non-profits.

Last year, CFNOVA’s “Supporting our Region’s Veterans” study identified a need for greater coordination among government and non-profit providers to better serve military families in our area. I had the honor of joining a volunteer committee organized by CFNOVA and reviewing potential programs that could help address this issue. Together with Foundation staff, business leaders and community stakeholders we identified the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County’s “Serving Together” program as the uniquely capable solution – resulting in a substantial seed investment through the Community Foundation’s “Military Personnel & Their Families Fund.”

Serving TogetherThanks to that grant and a subsequent investment from Boeing, Serving Together is now expanding its program into Northern Virginia. Building off five years of success, Serving Together will now be able to offer a sustained, coordinated system of resources to the service members, veterans and their families who have already given so much.

Each of us individually has the potential to make a difference for others; however, we can greatly magnify our impact when we address issues collaboratively. I applaud CFNOVA for their spirit of partnership that has helped so many in our region build better lives, now and in the future.
