supportThe Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has partnered with Micron to strengthen STEM learning through efforts to build knowledge, systems, and capacity in Northern Virginia by ensuring underserved students have access to high-quality STEM learning experiences.

Any companies wishing to utilize the expertise of the Community Foundation staff to run a grants process in alignment with your organization’s philanthropic priorities is welcome to contact our staff.

Here are the two 2022-2023 award winners:

Belong!
This project will hold weekly sessions to introduce our K-6 students to STEM and engineering basic skills through participation in a year-long LEGO Challenge. The year will culminate with team projects which will be on public display in Vienna, and all participants will be recognized.

BGH Foundation dba BlackGirlsHack
To provide a hands-on cybersecurity educational program which will introduce ethical hacking, and careers n cybersecurity, with the opportunity to test and pass an entry level cybersecurity certification.

Nonprofits & Schools: Learn More

In 2022, the Community Foundation awarded two grants of $7,000 each to nonprofits in Northern Virginia that provide education, skills acquisition, and mentoring for underrepresented and under-funded student populations in the fields of engineering, technology, and STEM. Preference will be given to organizations that have or plan to have a 1:1 matching gift, however the matching gift is not required. Grants were awarded in a competitive process.

You will be instructed to set up an organizational profile before applying. If your organization has applied in the past, check with other staff members to get access to the organization profile already established. It contains grant history and past applications. Please do not set up a new profile unless you are sure your organization has not applied previously.

Who can apply?

• Public elementary, middle and high schools located in Northern Virginia are all eligible to apply.
• 501(c)(3) organizations providing charitable or educational services in Northern Virginia (defined as the areas within Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park) can apply for funding. Local, state and federal government entities are not eligible to apply.
• Organizations are limited to one application per grant cycle. Multiple applications will not be considered.
• Applications that are incomplete or late will not be considered.
