Grants & Scholarships

To nurture the health and well-being of all members of the Northern Virginia community.

Grantee RebuildingTogether
To help nurture the health and well-being of all members of the Northern Virginia community, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia makes grants with a focus in Health, Mental Health and Aging annually through the Community Investment Funds grant cycle.

In 2014, we published a report on A Portrait of our Aging Population in Northern Virginia, that uses current data and population projections to identify current needs and to plan for future needs of this population, expected to grow by 76% in the next twenty years. This year, especially in light of COVID-19, we know that the Mental Health needs in our region are growing.  The Opportunity Index data continues to provide updates about our region, and this data guides grantmaking from our Health, Mental Health & Aging Fund in recent years.

The Health, Mental Health & Aging Fund is a component fund of The Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia, an unrestricted endowment at the Community Foundation that makes grants to help build a community that works for everyone.

AgingReportCOVER“The reality of increasing numbers of seniors aging in place is that support programs for activities of daily living such as shopping, meal preparation, and transportation, will be more important than ever. The need for such services will grow exponentially as the population increases in the next two decades."
