The Community Foundation’s annual Gala has been described as a “homecoming” – an opportunity for more than 600 members of the Northern Virginia community to celebrate our region’s diversity, growth, and the Community Foundation’s ever growing capacity to support our neediest neighbors and seed innovative solutions to complex social issues.

On October 7, 2016, we joined with 640 friends and community leaders at the McLean Hilton for our annual "Raise the Region" black tie Gala. We celebrated the catalytic accomplishments of our donor community and honored J. Knox Singleton, CEO of Inova, with the 2016 Community Leadership Award, the most prestigious, longest standing award of its kind in our region.

Our community raised more than $550,000 to support the Community Foundation’s work in the region. Hundreds of people contribute to the success of our annual Gala. It is a massive undertaking, made possible only through the heartfelt dedication and hard work of an army of volunteers, donors, staff members, board members, cheerleaders, and Community Foundation friends. The commitment of so many to our mission moves us to action each year and infinitely inspires us.

On October 6, 2017, we joined with more than 600 friends and community leaders at the McLean Hilton for our annual "Raise the Region" black tie Gala. It was an uplifting, fun event that celebrated the Community Foundation’s work, funding partners, and growth, and that also honored the unparalleled philanthropy of Mark and Brenda Moore through the Community Leadership Award, an award that has been given out continuously since 1983 to some of the most influential and generous people in Northern Virginia.

Our community raised more than $530,000 to support the Community Foundation’s work in the region. Hundreds of people contribute to the success of our annual Gala. It is a massive undertaking, made possible only through the heartfelt dedication and hard work of an army of volunteers, donors, staff members, board members, cheerleaders, and Community Foundation friends. On October 9, 2015,we once again gathered at the Community Foundation's Sweet Home Virginia Gala to celebrate the ever-growing levels of philanthropy shaping our region and to honor Jim Wordsworth with the 2015 Community Leadership Award, the most prestigious, longest standing award of its kind in our region.
The outpouring of support was absolutely tremendous! The room was packed. Preliminary results indicate that the Gala raised $482,000, one of the best results in the history of the event. The silent auction results alone were an organizational record, grossing more than $66,000 towards the overall financial outcome.

We are always humbled by the sheer number of people willing to help the Community Foundation with this mission critical event. Sponsors purchase tables and bring many guests to help fill the room. Volunteers drive a table sales and auction effort that defies measurement in its level of work and commitment to the cause. Board members and staff meet regularly for 9 months to plan the event, crafting all elements of a successful evening and leveraging every single relationship we have to benefit the outcome.

When all is said and done, it is a simple truth that we can never repay you. But we can thank you with an open and appreciative heart and acknowledge, once again, that we do nothing alone at the Community Foundation. Every single thing we accomplish for Northern Virginia, both small and great, is the result of the words and actions of countless donors, supporters, cheerleaders, volunteers, board members, staff members, community partners, and friends.

These funds directly support the Community Foundation, its work, impact, and capacity to grow philanthropy to meet the most critical needs of our region.
