Northern Virginia Nonprofits and Schools with Eligible Programs Invited to Apply

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has launched four discretionary grant cycles for the 2014-2015 season – its Community Investment Funds, Future Fund, Business Women’s Giving Circle, and Loudoun Impact Fund grants.  Applications are now being accepted from nonprofits, schools and faith-based organizations serving Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Community Investment Funds
The Community Investment Funds grant cycle is the Community Foundation’s largest cycle of the year.  Last year, 36 grants totaling more than $300,000 were awarded to nonprofits serving the most critical needs of our region.  The Community Foundation is now accepting Letters of Intent (LOI) in the following areas: Health, Mental Health and AgingPoverty ReliefChild and Youth Development; and Education.

  • Organizations notified to submit full proposal: October 24th
  • Grant Applications Due: November 30th
  • Applicants notified of funding status: February 15th
Future Fund
The Future Fund is a young professionals giving circle of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, and members select a different focus area each year for annual grantmaking.  For the 2014-2015 season, the Future Fund invites organizations providing mental health services to individuals or families who might not otherwise have access to care to apply. Services may include counseling and other supports, support groups, early identification of mental health issues or other services related to supporting an individual’s mental health.  Funds are intended to benefit individuals aged 13 and up, and may include families.  

Non-profit organizations can apply for grants of up to $20,000. The total grant pool is $40,000.

Business Women’s Giving Circle
The Business Women's Giving Circle was established in early 2014 to empower girls and women of all ages and prepare them for business success by supporting organizations that create connections, opportunities, and confidence.  For the inaugural grant cycle, this giving circle will support nonprofit organizations and schools that provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and/or Entrepreneurship programs to middle and high school girls.

Loudoun Impact Fund
The Loudoun Impact Fund is a giving circle made of engaged citizens and corporations in Loudoun County.  This year, a total of $50,000 is available in a competitive grant cycle for programs that address the following two areas: $25,000 to develop or expand high quality after school programs for low to moderate families; and $25,000 for programs serving children and youth in Loudoun.
