Mason Innovation Lab - $25,000 - In September  of  2013 the Innovation Lab awarded $25,000 to help launch the Mason Innovation Lab at the George Mason School of Business. The Lab provides students and graduates of George Mason  the opportunity to develop and launch new business ideas across many industry sectors with both product and service offerings

Students are selected to participate in the lab through a competitive admissions process. Teams of undergraduate and graduate students complete an innovation and entrepreneurship curriculum, receive dedicated   space in the Lab, work with experts and mentors and participate in activated designed to launch their business.

Northern Virginia’s Inaugural Mini Maker Faire - The Innovation Fund was a founding partner and sponsor of Northern Virginia’s Inaugural Mini Maker Faire, Held in March at South Lake High School  and Hughes Middle School in Reston, VA.  The Faire brought together innovators, hackers, crafters, artists, and DIY’ers from Across the region demonstrate and collaborate with Faire-goers to make things, new inventions, tools, and gadgets . More than 100 booths Featured ‘makers’ ages 12to 92, offering hands on projects for adults and kids of  all ages.

The Community Foundation partnered with Nova Labs to present this event, the Mission of Nova labs is to provide a community workshop where people can learn teach, and collaborate on creative and technical works and to promote the usefulness of competence in the technical arts.
