Dorothy Jean Coates Scholarship Foundation Fund

Dorothy Jean Coates was born in 1935 in Greenwood, SC.  She was married to Richard L. V. Coates, Jr. and earned her high school diploma in 1969 by attending Night School after the birth of her 5^th of five children.  Dorothy enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) in 1975.  She took one course per quarter while maintaining a career and family.  She graduated in 1993 with an AS General Studies after her five children matriculated through college and established their own careers.  Dorothy enrolled in MWC after graduating from NVCC to continue improving her education attainment until her death in 1998.  She was truly a life-long learner.
