Report on Aging

Grants $10,000 to support Northern Virginia Rides Program for seniors

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has released “A Portrait of our Aging Population in Northern Virginia,” a report on the aging population 65 and older in the Northern Virginia region. The study highlights demographic, social and economic trends that impact older adults, ages 65 and over, in Northern Virginia, and is one of a series of publications commissioned and published by the Community Foundation to inform, inspire meaningful dialogue, and increase philanthropic and public investment surrounding critical community needs. 2013 Sweet Home Virginia Gala

Raises Funds to Support Local Critical Needs

J. Hamilton Lambert, former Fairfax County Executive and current Executive Director of the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, was honored with the 2013 Community Leadership award for his visionary leadership in the Northern Virginia region. The award was presented at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s 2013 Sweet Home Virginia Gala on October 25, 2013 at the Sheraton Premiere in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

For the 2013-2014 School Year

The Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013 Healthy Kids Grants supporting school and community based programs in Northern Virginia that either encourage more activity or encourage better nutrition for students during the 2013-2014 School Year.

Four outstanding students in Northern Virginia have been awarded an Elizabeth Koury or Rose Koury Scholarship, both of which are administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. These scholarships each award up to $5,000 a year for four years. The Elizabeth Koury Scholarship was created to support graduating high school seniors in Northern Virginia who plan to pursue a career in medicine while the Rose Koury Scholarship was created to support graduating high school seniors in Northern Virginia who plan to pursue a career in elementary or early childhood education.

Children’s Science Center-$5,000 - Museum without Walls - To support museum (MWOW) Mobil Labs and Family Science Night with supplies and equipment for up to two interactive exhibits and ten hands on activates to promote STEM learning.

2013 Winners

In June 2013 the Loudoun Impact Fund announced the winning organizations of its inaugural competitive grant cycle. A total of $50,000 has been awarded to five nonprofit organizations in Loudoun County to support capacity building among Loudoun County nonprofits as well as programs that address the wellbeing of children and youth, specifically in the areas of mental health and substance abuse.
