Casa and others in Action photoVirginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights, GranteeThe Racial Justice and Equity Fund for Northern Virginia is a component fund of The Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia, an unrestricted endowment at the Community Foundation that makes grants to help build a community that works for everyone. The Fund will deploy philanthropy to:

  • Increase understanding and awareness of our community’s historic and current challenges with systemic and structural racism
  • Provide access to stories from diverse perspectives on the lived experience of inequity in the region
  • Promote access to capital, loans, grants, mentoring, and coaching to Black owned and other minority owned businesses in the region
  • Drive change in systems that cause and perpetuate racial and ethnic disparities
The Racial Justice and Equity Fund will help our community bring about a more equitable and inclusive prosperity that marries our economic strength with the full breadth of our diverse community. We can only become stronger when all people are respected, welcomed, and invited to share their assets and contributions in community building.

To date, the Community Foundation has awarded $440,000 to 22 local organizations in June 2020 to both strengthen and empower communities of color in our region who are fighting on the front lines of not one, but two crises - COVID-19 and racial injustice.
