The Plant NOVA Natives Fund

Plant NoVA Natives LogoThe Northern Virginia Regional Commission operates a campaign knows as Plant NOVA Natives that addresses the loss and fragmentation of native plant cover.  This Fund is solely dedicated to supporting this campaign.

The loss of native plant cover combined with the increased abundance of non-native, invasive plant species throughout the Northern Virginia has had a significant impact on the ecological integrity of the region.  As a result, water quality, air quality, wildlife habitat, and the historic natural character of the landscape have suffered.

It uses education and outreach to help landowners learn more about their property, the benefits of a native plant landscape, and how their actions can impact the sustainability of the place they live in.  The campaign has produced a number of resources actively market and promote native plants including the incredibly successful guide book "Native Plants for Northern Virginia" which can be downloaded for free or purchased for a nominal fee from http://www.plantnovanatives.org/.

Approximately 100 other volunteers regularly contribute time to help to maintain a campaign website, create social media posts, attend community events to educate the public about the benefits of native plants, conduct outreach to garden centers, and give presentations to community groups and garden clubs.

Your donation will support the Northern Virginia Regional Commission’s efforts to expand and develop this campaign to encourage the community to plant species native to our region.
