THE PRESENTERS

Renée Byng Yancey is the President & CEO of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, a role she assumed in 2024. A seasoned nonprofit and philanthropy executive, her career spans leadership roles in education, workforce development, and community engagement. Prior to joining the Foundation, she held senior positions at the American Institute of Architects and the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington. Renée brings a deep commitment to social change, civic engagement, and public-private partnerships. She holds a Master of Science from Drexel University and an honorary Doctorate from Peirce College, where she served on the board of trustees for over 13 years. A proud Northern Virginian since 2007, she is an avid Philadelphia sports fan and active community volunteer.


Alan J. Abramson is a professor and the director of the Center on Nonprofits, Philanthropy, and Social Enterprise in the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. In these positions, he teaches, conducts research, and works in the broad field of public administration, with a particular focus on issues related to the nonprofit sector and philanthropy. For more than a decade, Abramson directed the Aspen Institute’s Nonprofit Sector and Philanthropy Program, overseeing the Nonprofit Sector Research Fund and other initiatives that helped to build the nonprofit research field in the United States, strengthen nonprofit and foundation leaders, and deepen the understanding of policymakers about nonprofit activities. Before joining the Aspen Institute, he was on the staff of the Urban Institute, where he conducted research on a variety of domestic public policy issues.


Terry L. Clower is Northern Virginia Chair and professor of public policy in the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. He is also director of George Mason's Center for Regional Analysis. The Center provides economic and public policy research services to sponsors in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. Prior to joining George Mason, Clower was director for the Center for Economic Development and Research at the University of North Texas. He also spent 10 years employed in private industry in logistics and transportation management positions.
