Managed by the Community Foundation

The Community Foundation manages over 280 funds that support the philanthropy of the donors who establish them. Grants to nonprofit organizations in this region, throughout the United States, and even abroad are awarded from their funds at the donors’ recommendations. Donors have also helped establish permanent community endowments from which the Community Foundation awards grants to support the most critical needs of the region and to seed innovative solutions now and for future generations.

Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia

The Permanent Fund is an endowment to shape our region’s future that responds to critical need, seeds innovation, and leads the community with thoughtful, effective philanthropy. Donors can contribute directly to the Permanent Fund or open a named component fund within the Permanent Fund to create a lasting legacy of giving to transform lives and strengthen Northern Virginia.

Community Investment Funds

The Community Investment Funds are the signature grant cycle managed by the Community Foundation in which funds are invested in organizations serving the Northern Virginia community in the areas of child and youth development, disabilities education, Latino engagement and achievement, mental health, aging, military personnel and their families, and safety net support.
