Ready for Kindergarten, Ready for Life: The causes and consequences of Northern Virginia's preschool enrollment disparityOctober 28, 2021

High-quality early education—preschool—has the potential to narrow long-standing racial and economic achievement gaps, provide crucial relief to Northern Virginia’s working parents, and produce stunning long-term returns on investment.
Unfortunately, across the nation and in Northern Virginia, the children who would benefit most from preschool are the least likely to be enrolled.
On October 28, Insight RegionTM will release its next brief in the Inclusive Prosperity series on early childhood education, where we examine disparities in preschool enrollment and disentangle how access, cost, and consumer preferences play into our findings. The brief includes a series of recommendations on how the community can fulfill the promise of preschool by (1) increasing the availability of high-quality preschool in Northern Virginia, (2) filling the gap between what families can pay and what providers must charge, and (3) supporting families who prefer parental- or relative-provided education.
The brief will be made available following the event. Please join us.
