Growing Philanthropy to Respond to Critical Need and Seed Innovation in our Region

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia grows philanthropy to respond to need, seed innovation and lead and convene the community. Comprised of donor advised funds, permanent funds, giving circles, and other charitable endowments, the Community Foundation connects donors to community and promotes a more equitable and inclusive prosperity that marries our economic strength with the full breadth of our diverse community. In 2018 the Community Foundation awarded more than $7.1 million in grants and scholarships and now reports $71 million in managed philanthropic assets.

ServiceAreaOur Community Foundation serves the entire region, including Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park.

During 2017 alone, the Community Foundation awarded a record breaking $4.7 million in grants and scholarships and raised $13 million in new gifts. Over 1,000 generous individuals, families, and businesses who feel passionately about our community have made this success possible.

The Community Foundation will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018, a milestone we are marking with the launch of a campaign to grow The Permanent Fund For Northern Virginia, a community endowment that will be a forever source of critical support for our most vulnerable neighbors.

No one can predict what Northern Virginia will need or want 40 years from now. But the Community Foundation will still be here, responding to need, seeding innovation, and leading and convening the community.
