CFNV AR 2025 IMPACT GRAPHIC STEWARDING ALL

Your Trusted Advisor for Responsible, Sustainable Growth

At the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, we steward private capital for public good with a clear purpose: to make more possible for generations to come. In FY25, our investment portfolio delivered a 17.9% total return, reinforcing our commitment to responsible, long-term stewardship.

Here for the Long-Term

Our commitment goes beyond today’s needs. By encouraging endowments and diversifying funds beyond donor-advised options, we strengthen the region’s capacity to respond to future challenges. The Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia is central to this vision, serving as the source of discretionary grants that address the most pressing needs today, and seeding that source of philanthropy for future generations.

Stories of Partnership

Environment Fund: $1 Million Endowment Mark

Each year, thousands of individual donors passionately support causes close to their hearts through the Community Foundation. Although we may never meet some of those individuals, we know how much of an impact they can make. For instance, we recently received an anonymous gift that pushed our Environment Fund past the $1 million endowment mark. This is the first issue area focused fund to reach this milestone! Given that such funding enables critical opportunities for our region, we are ecstatic over this milestone and the generosity required to reach it.

A Legacy of Encouragement and Giving: Beth and Jim’s Story

Driven by a passion for breaking barriers and empowering others, Beth Wadle’s journey to becoming a legacy donor of the NVTC Foundation Kilberg Scholarship Fund is truly inspiring. As a young woman, fields like math and science were not considered a traditional career path.  Nevertheless, she pressed on, and her determination earned her two engineering degrees. She went on to a more than 30-year career as one of the few women in her field of choice, the intelligence community. Although she was often the youngest person in the room during that time, Beth used her standing to encourage other women to follow in her footsteps and pursue STEM careers.

ANSER Community Giving Fund honors long-time Board Member

When ANSER launched their Community Giving Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, the goal was clear: to make a meaningful difference in the communities where its employees live and work. For the inaugural grant cycle, ANSER chose to honor one of its own—Tom Apperson, Senior Advisor at Avalon Net Worth, a dedicated Board member who served for more than 20 years and retired this November.
