Kara Foster-Bey Memorial Fund
Established: February 5, 2020
The fund was created to honor Kara's life. Kara was 25 years old when she took her life on April 1, 2019. She was beautiful, talented, and a high achiever. She was a straight A and honor roll student from elementary school through college. She was also a gifted competitive swimmer who swam in Junior Olympics and was one of only two Freshman to make her High School varsity team. Kara did all this while fighting a debilitating and painful illness, Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome.
Kara worked at Chesterbrook United Methodist Pre-School and brought her creative and artistic talents to everything she did, from bulletin boards to costumes to holiday decorations. She retained her childlike sense of wonder at the world and in many ways was happiest among the children there. The preschool staff and families were a kind of a second home and family to her. We are ever grateful for their care and love.
Kara's suicide was the culmination of a long battle with physical and emotional health problems, and this fund was established lovingly by her family to contribute to preventing suicide in other young people who might be struggling.
