Fairfax, VA (May 8, 2025) – The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced the appointment of Kathleen Lowenthal as its new Development Officer. A lifelong resident of the DMV area, Kathleen brings a deep understanding of the region and a passion for community-driven philanthropy.

In this strategic role, she will lead efforts to grow the Foundation’s community endowments, ensuring sustainable philanthropic resources to meet both current and future needs across Northern Virginia. Kathleen will work closely with President and CEO, Renée Byng Yancey, the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to ensure mission alignment in donor engagement and support. She will play a key role in cultivating charitable investments and partnerships that advance the Foundation’s vision of building a Northern Virginia that works for everyone.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Kathleen has led nonprofit partnerships that generated over $1 billion annually and managed client engagements to drive philanthropic growth across the U.S. and globally. “I am honored to join the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia,” said Kathleen. “This organization’s dedication to opportunities for all, innovation, and regional collaboration resonates deeply with my personal and professional values.
