$25,000 Grant Awarded to Fairfax County Public Schools Get2Green Initiative

050918 003The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia today announced the establishment of The Environment Fund. This fund is made possible by a $500,000 gift to The Community Foundation from an anonymous donor. The first grant of The Environment Fund endowment is $25,000 to the Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in support of a program called Get2Green.

Opportunity Index Unveiled as Panelists Evaluate Workforce Development Challenges and Opportunities, and Region’s Income Inequality

sotr 105The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the Shape of the Region conference on February 15, 2018 at Valo Park in Tysons Corner, Virginia.  Nearly 300 registered guests attended the event. Keynote speakers included Michael Cassidy, President & CEO, Commonwealth Institute, and Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow of Economic Studies and Co-Director of the Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution.

Identifies Challenges and Barriers to Economic Success for Many in our Region

Opportunity Index Logo SmallThe Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced today the launch of The Opportunity Index for Northern Virginia, an interactive dashboard to serve as a data resource for community knowledge and strategic philanthropic giving, and to help grow philanthropy for our most economically disadvantaged populations.   The data and accompanying report were prepared by The Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis, a nonprofit think-tank that provides credible, independent, and accessible information and analyses of fiscal and economic issues with particular attention to the impacts on low- and moderate-income persons.  The Opportunity Index is available to the public for free at www.cfnova.org/opportunityindex.

$25,000 Awarded to Northern Virginia Non-Profit Serving the Latino Community

LEAF 5Paty Funegra and Diana Katz at April '17 LEAF LaunchThe Latino Engagement and Achievement Fund (LEAF) announced today that it awarded a $25,000 grant to Edu-Futuro, a nonprofit with offices in Arlington and Springfield.  The grant will support Edu-Futuro’s Emerging Leaders Program which targets the next generation of leaders and professionals in the Latino community. Edu-Futuro empowers under-resourced Latino and immigrant youth and their parents through education, leadership development, and family engagement.

Opportunity Index Illuminates Key Issues for Panel Discussion

ShapeOfTheRegion Logo FINAL BlueThe Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce will co-host the Shape of the Region conference on February 15, 2018 from 8:00 - 11:45 am at Valo Park in Tysons Corner, 7950 Jones Branch Drive, McLean, Virginia.  Registration is $65 and includes continental breakfast.

This event will explore two big issues facing the Northern Virginia region's future as illuminated by data from the Community Foundation's Opportunity Index, each with a panel discussion.  Panelists will evaluate the region’s opportunity and inequality, and tapping the workforce assets in our own backyard.

2018-19 Scholarships Now Open

IMG 6117The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has opened its scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 school year and is seeking eligible applications from graduating high school seniors in Northern Virginia.

The Community Foundation holds multiple scholarship funds and awards over $200,000 each year to help nearly 80 Northern Virginia students attend the college of their choice. Each scholarship has different selection criteria, allowing opportunities for a diverse range of students.

2018 Community Investment Funds Grant Cycle Now Open

Jan. 2017 SMART ClassThe Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced today that the 2018 Community Investment Funds Grant Cycle is now open.

The Community Investment Funds are the signature grant cycle managed by the Community Foundation in which funds are invested in organizations serving the Northern Virginia community.  This year funding will be provided in four areas of focus:  Child and Youth Development, Education, Poverty Relief, and Aging.  More information, including a video webinar where the application process is explained, is available at http://www.cfnova.org/for-grant-seekers/community-investment-funds
