In a powerful new collaboration, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia (CFNOVA) and the We’re Good Podcast have joined forces to amplify the voices of changemakers across the region. This partnership is more than a media initiative—it’s a celebration of the everyday brilliance of individuals and organizations working to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and resilient Northern Virginia.

At the heart of this collaboration is a shared belief: that storytelling can spark understanding, connection, and action. The We’re Good Podcast, hosted by former television news reporter Lee Ann Necessary Brownlee, is a trusted platform for uplifting stories of local impact. Past episodes have featured nonprofits like Dog Tag Bakery, Doorways, and Horton’s Kids—organizations that are transforming lives.

Now, with the support of CFNOVA, the podcast is expanding its reach to spotlight nonprofits selected from the Foundation’s 2025 grantee cohort. These organizations are tackling some of the region’s most pressing challenges—from Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to Environmental Sustainability, Aging, and Education. Each nonprofit will receive tailored support to help them use their podcast episode as a strategic tool to raise awareness, engage supporters, and promote their mission.

“We also hear a deep need for more uplifting stories,” says Tanya Ruiz La Force, We’re Good co-founder and longtime CFNOVA supporter. "Our listeners feel more positive and recommend the We're Good Podcast to others. By working together, nonprofits now have a dedicated outlet for their stories."

This partnership is a natural extension of CFNOVA’s mission to build a Northern Virginia that works for everyone. “Through this collaboration, We’re Good and the Community Foundation will elevate the voices of those working on the front lines of community change—offering listeners compelling stories that deepen understanding and inspire action.” says Renée Byng Yancey, President and CEO of CFNOVA. “Each episode will bring to life the challenges, solutions, and human impact behind the issues shaping our region.”

Listeners can tune in to the We’re Good Podcast wherever they get their podcasts, including a special episode featuring the Community Foundation and a pop-up podcast recorded live at the Community Impact Celebration. This episode features nonprofit leaders from SPARC Solutions and Our Minds Matter, two organizations making an impact in Fairfax County. Bob Kipps, now Immediate Past Chair, shares his experiences from seeing the impact CFNOVA has made on the region first-hand. It also spotlights alumni Maddie Pugh of Loudoun County High School and Kobra Afzali of Herndon High School. Additionally,CIC resized students Marcy Mager, a fund partner of the Community Foundation and the generous supporter behind Kobra’s scholarship, shares the heartfelt story of how and why she chose to establish the scholarship in the first place.

More co-branded episodes are on the way in 2026—each one a testament to the power of local voices and the strength of community.
