At the heart of the discussion was CFNOVA's mission to transform generosity into meaningful community change. Built specifically for Northern Virginia and designed to serve the region in perpetuity, the Community Foundation works with donors, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders to strengthen the communities of Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, and Prince William counties, as well as the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
Throughout the interview, Renée highlighted a reality that often surprises people outside the region. Northern Virginia is home to one of the nation's strongest economies, yet many families continue to struggle with the rising costs of housing, childcare, healthcare, and other necessities. Financial hardship exists in every jurisdiction, even in communities that appear prosperous from the outside.
As Renée explained, community philanthropy serves as an important bridge between need and opportunity. Through data, community insight, and collaboration, CFNOVA helps identify where resources can make the greatest difference. These insights help donors, nonprofits, and community leaders make smarter investments and develop solutions that address both immediate concerns and long-term challenges.

In 2026, CFNOVA awarded 99 scholarships totaling nearly $377,000 to students pursuing higher education, helping the next generation of leaders achieve their goals. The Foundation also distributed $955,000 in grants to 62 nonprofit organizations working across a broad range of issue areas, including education, arts and culture, mental health, basic needs, environmental stewardship, aging services, and support for military families. In Fiscal Year 2025, donor-advised funds at CFNOVA awarded more than $7.9 million in grants. In the conversation, Renée emphasized that philanthropy is more than charity; it is a tool for creating opportunity. While one donor can make a significant difference, bringing people together around a shared vision can transform an entire region.
As she shared on the Podcast, "Northern Virginia is a region of abundance, but not everyone shares equally in that abundance. Our role is to help ensure opportunity reaches every corner of our community."
