Giving Circle at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia supports critical needs in Loudoun County
Eleven charities dedicated to programs benefiting youth and elderly received 2015 Loudoun Impact Fund grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Winners were announced on October 28, at a reception hosted by Shoes Cup and Cork and attended by charity representatives and donors.Inspired by similar giving circle programs across the country, the Loudoun Impact Fund’s grantmaking represents the generosity of dozens of local individuals and businesses invested in local philanthropy. By pooling contribution gifts, the Loudoun Impact Fund generated almost $65,000 to support local need. Loudoun Impact Fund donors review all submitted applications, and together, come to consensus on finalists for grants. This year, almost 40 charities applied for the grants.
“We spend time considering need as presented by each organization, the capacity of each organization, and how our grant will impact outcomes for our local children and elderly populations,” said Lynn Rubin, a donor to the Loudoun Impact Fund. “It’s a pleasure, but there is also responsibility to ensure we make sound investments in the charities here at home.”
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia launched the Loudoun Impact Fund as a means to involve local citizens in community philanthropy. In 2015 the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia broadened the giving circle by partnering with the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties.

To expand its reading programs for low-income children to an additional location in Sterling
Audubon Naturalist Society $2,500
To support an after school program for at-risk youth at Rust Sanctuary in Leesburg
Loudoun Education Foundation $7,500
To support its Backpack Coalition programs providing weekend food for LCPS children
INMED Partnerships for Children $5,000
To support its newly emerging after-school program for low-income youth
Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter $6,000
To support the emergency shelter for women and their children
Loudoun Interfaith Relief $5,000
To purchase fresh fruit for elders and children distributed through the food pantry
Loudoun Literacy Council $5,000
To expand early head start literacy programs for low- income children
Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers $10,000
To provide direct services to elderly and disabled low -income clients
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) $5,000
To seed a teen mental health and awareness program in Loudoun County
National Center for Children and Families $5,000
To provide dental, vision, and clothing for low income kids referred by the LCPS system
YMCA $5,000
To support its after school programs for low income children
Members make an annual, tax deductible contribution to the Loudoun Impact Fund at the level of $1,000 for individuals and $5,000 for corporations.
