A transformational
grant from The MATTIE Fund: Mindful Advocacy for Totally Transformative Inclusion and Equity is helping the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia deepen its investment in the health and well-being of our region. Founded by nationally recognized
mental health expert and advocate, Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble, The MATTIE Fund supports innovative approaches that create more inclusive, connected, and thriving communities. Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble was one of 12 global leaders entrusted by Melinda French Gates through Pivotal with a $20 million grant-making fund to advance women's well-being.
This significant investment will strengthen efforts to promote well-being, foster a greater sense of belonging, and expand opportunities for individuals and families across Northern Virginia. By supporting culturally relevant and community-informed solutions, the grant will help address immediate challenges while creating pathways to long-term success and systemic change.
As a trusted community partner and steward of philanthropic resources, the Community Foundation is uniquely positioned to connect funding with the organizations and leaders closest to the work. Together, CFNOVA and The MATTIE Fund are advancing a shared vision of a region where every person has the support, opportunity, and sense of belonging needed to thrive. Through this partnership, philanthropy is being leveraged not only to meet today's needs, but to create lasting impact for generations to come.
About the MATTIE Fund:
Named in honor of Dr. Alfiee's mother, Mattie McLeod Breland, the Fund promotes the mental and holistic well-being of girls and women from diverse and historically underrepresented communities through investments that advance advocacy, inclusion, equity, and transformative systems change.
