As the CFNOVA Board of Directors and team reflect on the 2023-2024 year, we are filled with immense gratitude and pride for the collective impact we have made together. At the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, our theme, We Are Northern Virginia, underscores a profound truth: our strength lies in the power of community.
Over the past year, we have seen this strength in action. With the support of our donors, partners, and community members, we surpassed $100 million in cumulative grants and scholarships since our founding in 1978. These investments have fueled initiatives addressing critical needs—from awarding grants to nonprofits who are advancing mental health resources for youth to supporting workforce development and education programs and many additional important causes that empower individuals to thrive.
Insight Region®®, the center for community research, is a beacon of understanding, highlighting key challenges and opportunities in Northern Virginia. This year’s reports, Getting By, The Economic Impact of Mental Health, and Social Trust, explored how families navigate economic uncertainty, the profound effects of mental health on regional prosperity, and the importance of trust in building strong, connected communities respectively. These insights have guided our efforts and empowered our partners to drive meaningful change where it’s needed most.
The stories of resilience and transformation we’ve witnessed reaffirm our commitment to building a community that works for everyone. Together, we are creating lasting change and ensuring Northern Virginia remains a place where all can live, work, and thrive.
