Harry and Bob 2025

As the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia turns the page to a new fiscal year, it also begins a new chapter in leadership—one filled with gratitude, optimism, and a shared commitment to community.

On July 1, 2025, Harry Klaff officially stepped into the role of Chair of the Board of Directors, bringing with him decades of leadership experience and a deep passion for service. He follows in the footsteps of Bob Kipps, who now serves as Immediate Past Chair after two transformative years at the helm.

Reflecting on his tenure, Bob shared, “I am so proud to have led the expansion of our grantmaking and deepening partnerships across sectors for the Community Foundation. I have full confidence that Harry will not only fill my shoes but outgrow them.”

Bob’s leadership came at a pivotal time. He guided the Foundation through a CEO transition, helped shape the 2022–2027 Strategic Plan, and oversaw major milestones—including surpassing $100 million in both assets under management and cumulative grants awarded. Under his guidance, the Foundation launched the Elevate NOVA initiative and expanded its research and data center, Insight Region®. His vision and steady hand have left a lasting legacy.

Now, the torch passes to Harry Klaff, a respected leader in commercial real estate and a long-time supporter of the Foundation. As Principal and U.S. President of Avison Young Global, Harry leads more than 2,000 professionals across the country and serves on the company’s Global Executive Committee. But it’s his heart for community that truly defines his leadership.

Harry has served on the Foundation’s Board for seven years, including as Vice Chair and Chair of the Community Leadership Committee during the launch of Insight Region® in 2020. Now, as Board Chair, he’s ready to build on the momentum.

“I am honored to serve in this role at a pivotal time,” Harry said. “I’m inspired by the Foundation’s commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and lasting impact. I look forward to working alongside our Board, staff, and partners in this next chapter.”

As the Foundation looks ahead to the culmination of its Strategic Plan in 2027 and its 50th anniversary in 2028, this leadership transition marks more than a change in title—it’s a celebration of progress and a renewed commitment to building a Northern Virginia that works for everyone.
