Addressing food insecurity in Northern Virginia
With SNAP benefits reduced and many impacted by the government shutdown in our region, a growing number of individuals and families in Northern Virginia are struggling to put food on the table. Local food banks and pantries are stepping up to meet the need—but they can’t do it alone.

To address the urgent needs of nonprofits across our region, we’ve accelerated our discretionary grants process this year. Our Community Investment Funds cycle is now accepting streamlined applications for general operating support from nonprofits.

Here’s how you can help today:

  • Find a local food bank or pantry: See Northern Virginia Magazine’s comprehensive list of food banks and pantries as well as the list below. We found this Instagram Video with some tips to consider when donating. Also, consider volunteering your time to support these groups.
  • Support CFNOVA’s 2025 discretionary grants pool. Please consider a contribution of $50 or more to our annual Community Investment Funds cycle. Your gift will strengthen the impact of nonprofits serving Northern Virginia.
DONATE TODAY
At the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, we serve as a connector—linking donors, partners, and volunteers to organizations making a difference. If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, you can recommend a grant to support our Community Investment Fund grants or to any local food pantry or hunger prevention program.

Together, we can ensure that no family in our region goes hungry.
