Makes $25,000 Grant to Prince William County Public Schools
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia recently made a challenge grant of $25,000 to SPARK, the Education Foundation of Prince William County Public Schools, to support its new Cyber Security Program at Potomac High School. The program is designed to train students and guide them toward a number of industry-recognized certifications.This grant was made possible through an anonymous donor to the Community Foundation’s Innovation Fund, developed in 2012 to support creativity, technology and new design across Northern Virginia.
The current school year is the planning year for the Governor’s STEM Academy for the Information Technology/Cyber Security Pathway at Potomac High School. Implementation of the Cyber Security Program will begin in the 2015-2016 school year with the construction of the Cyber Security Lab in July of 2015. The program will be offered to the students enrolled in the networking strand of the IT Curriculum at Potomac High School, with 65 students participating at its inception, growing to a full capacity of 260 students.
“We are delighted to support Prince William County Public School students with this grant to SPARK,” said Eileen Ellsworth, President of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. “By matching our donor’s interests with new and innovative programming being developed by the school system, we are thrilled to be supporting 21st-century learning opportunities for students in our region.”
