Mike Sanderson, a client of the Easterseals Veteran Staffing Network ProgramThe Easterseals Veterans Staffing Network received a $10,000 grant in 2018 from the Military Personnel & Their Families Fund through the Community Investment Funds grant cycle. This grant supported programs that coordinate services between the government and nonprofit providers to better serve military personnel and their families in the Northern Virginia region. Easterseals Veterans Staffing Network shared the following testimonial from Veteran Mike Sanderson to show the impact of this support in their community. “Two years ago, my life went from bad to worse when I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Since then, I lost my job, and we were in the process of losing our house. I spent six years in the US Marine Corps, and had never faced anything like this. I spent six months looking for employment only to have the door shut in my face every time. During this time I worked with a lot of unscrupulous recruiters and hiring managers who just strung me along. Needless to say, my wife and I were getting to the point of desperation, then I met Angie Gresh, of Easterseals Veteran Staffing Network.
The moment I contacted Angie, my life changed. She was completely upfront with me about everything, and that's all I asked. She was extremely professional, yet extremely personable. I not only got the job that I am perfect for, but now I have the job of my dreams that will change our lives forever. Two weeks ago, we were facing the possibility of being homeless, now thanks to the Veteran Staffing Network, we are looking for our next home with a renewed faith and a sincere gratitude to everyone at VSN, and for Angie having my back.
In short, in 2 weeks, we have gone from no job, no hope, no home, to employment at a dream job, financial stability, and a sense of fulfillment. I have beaten my cancer, and finally, things are looking bright again. I don't know how I can ever repay Angie and VSN except for helping my fellow vets like she helped me. My vow is to make everyone there proud of me and to demonstrate that they made the correct decision in placing their faith in me. Words cannot express my gratitude.”
